When did you join pedal? I joined in the spring of 2016

How long have you been riding and racing? This will be my 4th year racing but my first year with a training plan and somewhat of an idea of what I’m doing now.

What have you done to add value for our sponsors recently? How did you do it? I’ve been able to get on the podium a few times and I try and be as polite as possible riding around in the team kit.  The shop is awesome to have as a sponsor and I’d like to keep it that way.

Choose one of our sponsors whose product or service you can’t live without? I would say its the shop.  If I need something they’ll do whatever they can to help me out and I trust they’re not just trying to sell me something.

Favorite thing to do when you’re NOT riding your bike? Well I like to work on my bike.  From installing something lighter to fixing it to cleaning it.  I find it rather relaxing.  I’m sure the first time I glue on tubulars I will probably feel differently though.

Favorite motivational quote/saying? “Good better best, never let it rest, make your good better and your better best.” Not sure where I heard that but it stuck I guess.

Best race or ride experience or highlight? Well last year I achieved my main race goal for the season.  There is a 50 mile road race back in WI called the Firehouse 50 that I’ve been doing since I’ve started racing.  There are 200+ racers and its a mass start with riders ranging from cat 1 to cat 5.  In 2015 I took 31st overall so my goal was to get into the lead group and a top 20 finish.  I was able to make it into the lead group of 27 riders and was able to pull off 14th place which was only .6 seconds from a top ten.   So in 2017 I’m shooting for a top five finish.

I also surprised myself by winning and getting on the podium in some mountain bike races.  Of course the highlight of the mountain bike season is when I went back to WI and beat my cousin in 2 races.  In one race (Borah Epic) I took second overall and he took 3rd and in the other race (Deer Fly Chase) I took 1st and he took 2nd.  The Deer fly chase was awesome though because we were racing together the whole time on the single track and it came down to a sprint finish.

I started the CX season with lots of surprises as well.  I went to Jingle Cross in Iowa and ended up winning both my races and taking the overall.  After that I hurt my knee and barely held on to the overall in the CycloX series.

If you can’t tell I really like going down in elevation and racing.

What are your goals or what are you looking forward to in 2017?

I think my main goals are:

– To upgrade to cat 4 in both road and cx.

– Follow a training plan and get more cycling in.  200 hrs and 2500 miles is what I did in 2016 and that’s just not enough.

– I want to be a factor in every race.  If its trying to win or just helping a teammate to win.  I don’t want to be the rider that’s just hoping not to get dropped in every race.
