pR Rider Spotlight – Matt Cline

Hometown: Basking Ridge, NJ

Current Home: Littleton, CO

Discipline: Mostly mountain biking. I ride road and CX just as cross training or when the trails aren’t ready yet.

When did you join pedal? Just joined up this year. I’m hoping to do a little more racing and expand on the groups I normally ride with.

How long have you been riding and racing? I started riding after I moved out here in ’07. I do the E-Rock mountain bike race every year, used to be 24 hours, now it’s “just” the sunrise to sunset, with a couple of friends. I’m hoping to get a few more endurance races under my belt this season.

What is your absolute favorite road or trail to ride? Lair or Buff Creek. Hours of smooth single track is pretty unbeatable.

What piece of bike equipment/gear can you not live without? I’ve been a fan of the Honey Stinger waffles for years. I just bought a few boxes the other day. If I could live solely on those, I probably would. I also love my Salsa and Surly bikes, those two companies have some of the best and more progressive equipment available.

Favorite thing to do when you’re NOT riding your bike? Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – You know when you have a bad day and you just want to go and choke someone? That’s exactly what I get to do! It’s fantastic cardio, keeps your reflexes sharp, and humbles you constantly.

Favorite motivational quote/saying? “You’re not getting any prettier, so you may as well get tougher.” – S. Hordinski

Best race experience or highlight? My team has podiumed at the last few E-Rock races. We also hold the (unconfirmed) record for number of beers drank during the race.

What are your goals for 2016? I want to do a few more endurance races. Maybe even try a road race. I also want to expand on my bikepacking experience and do a few more sections of the Colorado Trail.
