pR Rider Spotlight – Darell Schultz
Name: Darrel Schultz
Current Home: I currently live in Old Englewood
Discipline and category if you race: All road, all the time.
When did you join pedal? I joined pEDAL in late 2014
How long have you been riding and racing? I raced from the time I was about 13 until I was about 33. Then I gave it up and started again as a 55-year old. I taught myself how to ride a bike when I was about 6, on an ancient balloon-tired “girls” bike that was so big I couldn’t sit down. My two favorite bikes of all time (excluding my current Cannondale EVO) were my Schwinn Heavy Duty, on which I carried the Rocky Mt. News for about two years, and my steel Colnago with Columbus tubing and primarily Campy components.
What is your absolute favorite road or trail to ride? The one that goes downhill
What piece of bike equipment/gear can you not live without? OR which of our sponsors could you not live without? My pEDAL kit is my favorite. When it’s in the laundry, I dread putting on the old cheap stuff. Second to that is my new Stages power meter.
Favorite thing to do when you’re NOT riding your bike? Working in my shop, building small steam engines. Reading nonfiction.
Favorite motivational quote/saying? “The sailor does not pray for wind, he learns to sail.” – Gustav Lindborg
Best race experience or highlight? Placing in the top ten (GC) in last year’s Steamboat Stage Race
What are your goals for 2016? Placing in the top five in this year’s Steamboat Stage Race
